FAQ

Board and Train FAQ

What training methods does K9aholics use?

We use a modern balanced training approach, tailored to each individual dog. We believe there is no one-size-fits-all method, so we focus on the dog in front of us and address the specific goals and concerns of each owner—resulting in a confident, well-rounded dog.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payment plan options can be discussed during consult.

Do you offer boarding services?

Yes, but only to clients who have completed one of our 3- or 4-week Board & Train programs. Boarding includes refresher training to maintain your dog’s progress.

Where will my dog be staying during training?

Your dog will live in-home with the trainer assigned to them. This personalized setup provides a low-stress, one-on-one environment—very different from a large, kennel-based facility.

Where will my dog sleep at night?

Dogs sleep in Ruffland-brand kennels, and Vari-Kennels for large or giant breeds, which are also used during the day for rest periods. This helps your dog remain safe, structured, and well-regulated throughout their stay.

Do I need to send anything with my dog?

All you need to provide is your dog’s food (and any required medications). We supply all training tools and equipment needed during their stay.

What is required to book a Board & Train program?

To secure your spot, we require a $500 deposit, which is applied to the total cost of your selected program.

Private Lessons FAQ

How often should we schedule lessons?

We recommend spacing lessons 7–10 days apart. For young puppies, after the first two lessons, spacing them out 2–3 weeks apart can be beneficial.
We do not recommend booking lessons closer than once per week or farther than every three weeks.

What do I need for my lessons?

Here’s what to bring:

  • Your dog’s food (preferably in a treat pouch)
  • Clicker
  • Flat collar
  • High-value rewards
  • Tug toy

Depending on your dog’s training level, you may also need:

  • Prong collar, slip lead, or e-collar (if conditioned)
  • Place cot or raised bed
  • Long line (optional but helpful)

Where will lessons be held?

You’ll coordinate directly with your trainer to choose a convenient location. Most first lessons are held in your home, and future lessons may move to public settings for added distractions.
